. Following the release of last week's report, six of the nine covering analysts reduced their forecasts for 2006. The new consensus estimate for profits of 74 cents per share is 22% below the forecast of a week ago.

InfoSpace, Inc. (Nasdaq:INSP) provided guidance for the first quarter that was materially below analysts' expectations. The company said last week that earnings per share should total between three and six cents this quarter. Prior to the guidance, analysts had projected a profit of 22 cents per share. The new consensus estimate calls for profits of eight cents per share. Analysts also slashed their forecasts for full year earnings; the new consensus estimate of 52 cents is 31 cents below the forecast of just a week ago.

Here is a synopsis of why MMM and SYK have a Zacks Rank of 4 (Sell) and should also most likely be sold or avoided for the next one to three months. Note that a #4 Sell rating is applied to 15% of all the stocks ranked by Zacks:

3M (NYSE:MMM) matched fourth-quarter expectations with profits of $1.04 per share, but provided somewhat disappointing guidance for 2006. The company said that it expects to earn $4.45-$4.60 per share this year versus analysts' expectations for $4.71 per share. Following the issuance of the guidance, six of the eight covering analysts lowered their forecasts, resulting in a new consensus estimate of $4.58 per share.

Stryker Corporation (NYSE:SYK) recently reported a fourth-quarter profit of 48 cents, matching expectations. Simultaneously, the company provided guidance that was below analysts' projections. SYK anticipates earning $2.02 per share this year. Five of the nine covering analysts quickly responded by lowering their forecasts for 2006; the new consensus estimate of $2.03 per share is five cents below the level of a week ago.
