Ryland Group, Inc. (NYSE:RYL) will release second-quarter financial results on July 20, 2005. Analysts have been increasing full year 2005 earnings estimates ahead of the second-quarter report. Current estimates of $8.26 per share are above one month ago levels by 33 cents, or approximately 4%. In mid April, the company posted first-quarter results, which included the highest consolidated net earnings, revenues, new orders, closings, backlog and earnings per share in its history. Earnings per share were $1.25, an improvement over last year's $1.03 and the consensus estimate of $1.19.

Here is a synopsis of why CTX and VRSN have a Zacks Rank of 2 (Buy). Note that a #2 Buy rating is applied to 15% of all the stocks ranked by Zacks:

Centex Corporation (NYSE:CTX) will announce fiscal first-quarter earnings on July 26, 2005. In late April, the company reported record fourth-quarter results, including earnings of $2.75 per share. The earnings total eclipsed last year's $2.05 and topped the consensus estimate by about 10%. CTX mentioned that it set the foundation for continued strong growth into the future with its record backlog and solid land position. Earnings estimates for the year ending March 2006 advanced 29 cents, or approximately 3%, from three months ago.

VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ:VRSN) earnings estimates for the year ending December 2005 climbed 12 cents, or almost 13%, over the past 90 trading days. In mid-April, the company released first-quarter non-GAAP earnings of 25 cents per share Cents per share
