Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) announced second-quarter core earnings of $2.12 per share in mid-July, outpacing the year ago result. The company mentioned that robust energy prices and strong chemical margins were key factors in its financial performance. Analysts have been upbeat on OXY as evidenced by the upward revisions of full year 2005 earnings estimates. Current estimates of $9.51 per share are above one month ago levels by almost 8%. The company will release financial results for the third quarter on October 31, 2005.

NAVTEQ Corp. (NYSE:NVT) posted second-quarter earnings of 27 cents per share in mid-July, which was ahead of the consensus estimate by about 17%. Revenue increased 27% year-over-year. The company commented that its second quarter and year-to-date financial results point to another strong year for navigation and location-based products and services. Earnings estimates for the year ending December 2005 advanced by five cents, or approximately 5%, from three months ago.
