A synopsis of today's Analyst Interview is presented below. The full article can be read at http://at.zacks.com/?id=2678.

If you were to give one Buy recommendation to a Big Pharma company and one to a biotech firm, which would they be?

I really like Abbott Labs (NYSE: ABT). That's my top pick in Big Pharma right now. They're going to produce double-digit earnings growth over the next couple years, they're expected to really benefit from their new rheumatoid arthritis rheumatoid arthritis

Chronic, progressive autoimmune disease causing connective-tissue inflammation, mostly in synovial joints. It can occur at any age, is more common in women, and has an unpredictable course.
and psoriasis psoriasis (sôrī`əsĭs), occasionally acute but usually chronic and recurrent inflammation of the skin. The exact cause is unknown, but the disease appears to be an inherited, possibly autoimmune disorder that causes the  drug Humira, and they've got new drug-eluting stents coming on the market.

As far as biotech, even though they have not reported yet, I'm still a big fan of ViroPharma (Nasdaq: VPHM). The stock has been reacting very well lately, and more people are starting to get over their fears about generic Vancocin, which is their lead product. They've also started to focus more and more on their pipeline. I think ViroPharma has two potential blockbusters in their pipeline, one of which is called Maribavir for CMV CMV cytomegalovirus.

2. cytomegalovirus

Cytomegalovirus (CMV)
, or cytomegalo virus, and the other is currently known as HCV-796, for the treatment of hepatitis C Hepatitis C Definition

Hepatitis C is a form of liver inflammation that causes primarily a long-lasting (chronic) disease. Acute (newly developed) hepatitis C is rarely observed as the early disease is generally quite mild.
. So ViroPharma earnings and growth is good because Vancocin is still producing, but I think the long-term story is even looking much better. Both these drugs, which are currently in late-stage trials, look to be big winners.
