Here are highlights from Tuesday's Analyst Blog:

Good SMTC Entry Point

Semtech (Nasdaq: SMTC) is a fabless supplier of analog and mixed signal semiconductor devices. The company has been diversifying the product portfolio, introducing new high-margin products and broadening the customer base. March quarter revenue was in-line with the consensus, while the EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) A PostScript file format used to transfer a graphic image between applications and platforms. EPS files contain PostScript code as well as an optional preview image in TIFF, WMF, PICT or EPSI, the latter being an ASCII-only format.  exceeded consensus estimates. Next quarter's guidance is for 0-2% sequential growth, with flattish bookings and backlog. Design win activity remains strong and the pipeline looks healthy.

The company has received a de-listing notice for the delay in filing its first quarter results, causing the share price to plunge. We believe this represents a buying opportunity and urge investors to accumulate shares.

Expecting Solid UBS Performance

We are reiterating our Buy on UBS AG (NYSE: UBS), and maintaining our target price at $65. UBS, expected to report second quarter results on August 15, had a 2-for-1 stock split on July 10, 2006. We have also adjusted our estimates for recent US$ depreciation against the Swiss franc. Our EPADS EPADS Earnings Per Average Diluted Share  estimates are now $4.22 for 2006 and $4.52 for 2007.

We expect continued solid operating performance to offset some credit quality weakening. UBS posted a 29% year-over-year gain in first quarter earnings to a record CHF CHF

3.2 billion due to robust capital markets. We believe UBS's $1.30 annual dividend, which provides a 2.6% yield, is safe.

NBIX Upgraded to Hold

Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. (Nasdaq: NBIX) is focused on the discovery and development of medication for neurological disorders using its expertise in neuroscience, endocrine, and immunology disciplines has allowed it to develop drugs for anxiety, depression, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), condition characterized by frequently alternating constipation and diarrhea in the absence of any disease process. It is usually accompanied by abdominal pain, especially in the lower left quadrant, bloating, and flatulence. , multiple sclerosis, obesity, and diabetes. The company's lead product candidate, Indiplon, received an FDA FDA

We no longer predict positive EPS for Neurocrine in 2006. In fact, our model continues to show operating losses through the end of the decade. Without Indiplon, the rest of the company is probably worth around $400 million as a development-stage biotech (including the $235 million in cash on the books at the end of the second quarter). This would be a target price of around $10.00 per share.

With the stock trading at $9.25, we believe the market has removed all Indiplon expectations. This is the reason for our upgrade to Hold. We do not believe that Neurocrine has much upside past $12 without Indiplon. However, the stock is attractive below $8 based on earlier-stage candidates. Our target is $10 and we expect the stock to languish around this level for quite some time.
