See the latest posts to the Analyst Blog by visiting http://at.zacks.com/?id=2673 Here are highlights from Monday's Analyst Blog: Some Constraints for ACTL Actel Corp. (Nasdaq:ACTL) is the fourth largest FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) A type of gate array that is programmed in the field rather than in a semiconductor fab. Containing up to hundreds of thousands of gates, there are a variety of FPGA architectures on the market. semiconductor OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and . March quarter revenue was in-line with the consensus, while the EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) A PostScript file format used to transfer a graphic image between applications and platforms. EPS files contain PostScript code as well as an optional preview image in TIFF, WMF, PICT or EPSI, the latter being an ASCII-only format. was much higher than the consensus. Order growth was the strongest experienced over the last four quarters, although the contribution from new products fell by over -12%. Management did not comment on the flash contribution, and it appears that it has not yet reached the 20% revenue contribution goal set back in 2004. The company continues to enjoy a high margin in select markets, but revenue growth remains an issue. We think that the shares are likely to be constrained until there is more evidence of growth from new products, especially flash. Consequently, we are reiterating our Hold rating on ACTL shares. The low growth profile of the antifuse FPGA business is a long-term concern to many potential investors. Though Actel benefits from the higher margins, the limited growth opportunity is prompting the company to diversify its product portfolio. Actel's future top-line growth depends heavily on the success of its flash-based FPGA business. Competition in the flash market is more intense, since both Lattice Semiconductor (Nasdaq:LSCC) and Altera (Nasdaq:ALTR) use embedded flash in their offerings. Rumors About V Overblown o·ver·blown v. Past participle of overblow. adj. 1. a. Done to excess; overdone: overblown decorations. b. Vivendi (NYSE:V) continued to post strong growth in its Music and Gaming Groups, while only its Canal+ group has experienced a decline in profitability. The decline is due to the higher costs associated with soccer broadcast rights, and will continue to add pressure for the remainder of the year. VUG vug n. A small cavity in a rock or vein, often with a mineral lining of different composition from that of the surrounding rock. [Cornish vooga. continues to expand its membership of Worlds Of Warcraft online, and UMG UMG Universal Music Group UMG Universidad Mariano Gálvez de Guatemala (Mariano Galvez University of Guatemala) UMG Upgraded Metallurgical Grade (silicon) UMG Unlicensed Medical Graduate has also experienced strong growth in its digital music business. We were pleased with these results, but are concerned with growing competition in online gaming and continue to rate shares a Hold. Also the current speculation about the company breaking up appears overblown and we expect the company to remain intact. Everything went right in 2005 for Vivendi, from the remarkable comeback of Mariah Carey to the unparalleled success of Worlds of Warcraft. The company will be hard-pressed to repeat all of these feats in 2006 as competition in online gaming continues to heat up, and that is why we are slightly concerned. For this reason as well as others, we are maintaining our Hold rating on shares of V. Our target price of $37.00 is based on the company trading between 14x and 15x our 2006 EPADR estimate of $2.61 per share.
