ZURN INDUSTRIES' NEPCO SUBSIDIARY AWARDED $60 MILLION DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR 20 MEGAWATT TIRE-FUELED POWER PLANT

ERIE, Pa., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Zurn Industries, Inc. (NYSE: ZRN), a leading designer, constructor and manufacturer of systems and equipment for power generation and water control, and Lynx golf equipment, announced today that its subsidiary, the National Energy Production Company (NEPCO), has received full notice to proceed with design and construction of a 20-megawatt tire-fueled power generation plant to be built in Ford Heights, Illinois for C.G.E. Ford Heights,
L.L.C. The contract is for over $60 million with construction to begin immediately and completion planned for the Spring of 1996. Operational Energy Company, a NEPCO subsidiary, will operate and maintain the facility under a contract with C.G.E. Ford Heights. Electricity from the new plant will be sold to Commonwealth Edison Company.
The new facility will be NEPCO's third to use tires as fuel; the first is a 30-megawatt plant in Connecticut fueled by whole tires and the second is a 40-megawatt facility in Florida designed to consume a combination of shredded tires and wood waste. NEPCO now has 1,970 megawatts of combined-cycle or biomass power generation capacity in service or under construction for independent power producer customers.
