Zonta Club hosted a luncheon Saturday to present their annual Zonta International Zonta International is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. The first Zonta Club was founded in Buffalo, New York in 1919.  Amelia Earhart Fellowship awards to several young women interested in pursuing a career in aerospace-related sciences and engineering.

The keynote speaker, Jennifer Baer-Riedhart, talked about her 29 years as a NASA NASA: see National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

``There's a whole world out there and all you have to do is find something you enjoy doing,'' Baer-Riedhart said. ``You can do anything and all you need is the perseverance to do it.''

Baer-Riedhart talked about what it was like to be one of two female engineering students at California Polytechnical University, San Luis Obispo San Luis Obispo (săn l`ĭs ōbĭs`pō), city (1990 pop. 41,958), seat of San Luis Obispo co., S Calif., near San Luis Obispo Bay; inc. 1856.  in 1970 and how the field has opened up for women since then - and about the problems that still exist.

``There are still some problems,'' Baer-Riedhart said. ``That glass ceiling is still there but you have to find a way around it. You can find a way around it.''

Baer-Riedhart began working with NASA in 1974 and has since worked on the F-18 High Angle-of-attack Research Vehicle program, the Optical Air Data System project, the Joined Wing Research Aircraft, the F-14 Variable Sweep Transition flight experiment, the JetStar Laminar Flow laminar flow

Among the technologies explored were close-coupled canards, fully digital flight control (including propulsion), composite materials (graphite and  aircraft.

Zonta International began in 1938 with Amelia Earhart as one of the founding members. Since its inception, the club has supported - through grants and fellowships - college and high school students who decide to enter the aerospace field.

The service organization extends worldwide, with more than 34,000 members in more than 1,230 clubs in 70 countries. Each club consists of professionals advocating the advance of the status of women.
