ZODIAC TO OPEN ITS FIRST 'FLAGSHIP' STORE ON WEST COAST IN SAN DIEGO; COMPANY CITES CONFIDENCE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ECONOMY, UPTURN IN SALES

SAN DIEGO, June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- ZODIAC, the world's oldest and largest manufacturer of inflatable boats, said today it has selected San Diego as the site of its first flagship store on the west coast.
The 7,500-square-foot "inflatables-only" dealership is scheduled for an early July opening. It marks ZODIAC's first flagship operation in the Pacific Rim, and follows an extensive study of possible markets throughout the west coast, said J.J. Marie, president of ZODIAC of North America.
"Our research data clearly indicated that the San Diego boating market is beginning to blossom," said Marie. "In addition, inflatables are already experiencing an upturn in sales. The new store is part of our strategy to position the company as a leader in this competitive market segment."
ZODIAC of San Diego, the new flagship store, will include both a showroom and a service facility. The two-story store will feature a complete line of ZODIAC products, from small inflatables to the new "Yachtline" boats, as well as the Bombard, Serie I and Sevylor product lines.
"We're extremely enthusiastic about the dealership and its prospects, for several reasons," said Randy Sherman, the owner of ZODIAC of San Diego. "In addition to increased consumer demand for inflatable products, the military side of the business also continues to grow. Additionally, the NAFTA agreement should provide great opportunities for the San Diego community, and we would like to be a part of that."
Jeff Napier, president of the National Marine Manufacturers Association, agreed with the assessment of the Southern California market.
"Southern California has become an increasingly important market for the industry," said Napier. "Zodiac's decision to open a flagship operation in San Diego clearly attests to the company's confidence in the area."
ZODIAC of San Diego will be located at 1919 San Diego Ave. In addition to grand opening events, the dealership will feature a variety of year-round activities such as seminars, special on-water events and vacation trips.
In addition to its recreational products, ZODIAC supplies boats and related safety equipment to the U.S. Army, Navy, Coast Guard and state and municipal agencies. ZODIAC's customers in the U.S. are served by approximately 350 local boating and accessory dealerships and service locations throughout the country.
