Will Use MunEDA Tool WiCkeD as Strategic Part of ZMD's DFM-DFY Design Flow.

MUNICH, Germany -- ZMD today announced that it has entered into a strategic licensing and consulting agreement with MunEDA regarding MunEDA's DFM-DFY tool WiCkeD. Designers in all ZMD business units worldwide will work with WiCkeD on innovations for automotive, industrial electronics, medical technology and for infrared interface solutions. ZMD has maintained a leading position in automotive electronics for several years now and aims to be the market leader in automotive sensor systems-on-chip for "X-by-Wire" applications. The company has successfully specialised in the design, production and marketing of robust, mixed analogue-digital, application-specific circuits (ASICs) and application specific standard products (ASSPs) with low energy consumption.

ZMD leveraged WiCkeD's integrated analysis and optimization flow to significantly increase the parametric yield of important building blocks of mixed-signal systems. WiCkeD allowed ZMD designers to meet the challenging performance goals of a new type of High Gain Transconductance Amplifier (OTA (Over The Air) Refers to any wireless system such as AM/FM radio and network television that uses open space as its transmission medium. ) with initially 190 active devices, being the most critical part of a 14-bit ADC (1) See A/D converter.

Techniques used include feasibility optimization of the main circuit and Self Biasing Cascodes (SBC (1) (SBC Communications Inc., San Antonio, TX, www.sbc.com) A large, national telecommunications company that grew from a multitude of local and regional companies, including Southwestern Bell, Pacific Bell and Nevada Bell, into a single, unified brand by 2002. ) sub-blocks, nominal optimization, worst case operation analysis, parameter influence analysis, yield analysis and optimization. With WiCkeD's fast and interactive tools, MunEDA's methodology supports a flexible workflow with incremental design steps and topology modifications, which is crucial for most analogue designs.

"After testing MunEDA's design and yield optimization tool WiCkeD in some very successful pilot projects, we chose it for analysis and optimization of analog and mixed-signal circuits and towards increased yield and robustness of our golden IP library.", stated Thomas Htzel, ZMD's Chief Technology Officer. "WiCkeD is well integrated into our standard design flow and supported by ZFOUNDRY's design kits for CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." The most widely used integrated circuit design. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes. , DMOS DMOS Double-Diffused Metal-Oxide Semiconductor

and bipolar technologies. With MunEDA's leading tools for DFM-DFY on circuit level, we will ensure to meet the next level of design and quality challenges of our customers.".

"We are very pleased about ZMD's strategic decision to incorporate MunEDA's tool WiCkeD as a key DFM-DFY element into their IC development process", stated Andreas Ripp, Vice President Sales & Marketing and Managing Director of MunEDA. "Together with ZMD and ZFOUNDRY we will extend our relationship to support also ZMD and ZFOUNDRY customers with MunEDA's yield and robustness improving methodologies".

About ZMD

Founded in 1961, ZMD AG specializes in the expert design, production, and marketing of mixed-signal application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and application-specific standard products (ASSPs) for automotive, industrial, and medical applications. Focused on high-precision signal conditioning Imagine feeding the output of a temperature sensor, which is in millivolts, to an Analog-to-digital converter to be processed. Is it possible for the Analog-to-Digital converter to process such a minute voltage amplitude? The answer is probably no.  and high-performance wireless communication, ZMD ensures an integrated foundation for robust sensor networks. With corporate headquarters in Dresden, Germany, ZMD also services customers from offices worldwide including: Melville, NY; San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850.
