ZING Names CE Industry Veteran Jon McCormack as VP of Software.


MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- ZING today announced the appointment of Consumer Electronics industry veteran Jon McCormack as Vice President of Software. McCormack will assume overall leadership for ZING's platform, application software and services, used by leading consumer partners like SIRIUS Satellite Radio

 to create a new class of portable entertainment players. Devices based on the ZING Mobile Entertainment Engine and services are distinguished by their ability to connect, download To receive a file transmitted over a network. In any communications session, "download" means receive, and "upload" means send. The download/upload often implies a big/little scenario, in which data is being downloaded from the "big" server into the "little" user's computer. , manage and exchange entertainment content and information directly from the player.

McCormack will be tasked with growing ZING's development organization, expanding its product offering and supporting ZING's partners. He reports directly to ZING CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Tim Bucher.

McCormack joins ZING from Openwave, the leading provider of software products and services for mobility in the communications and media industries. As Senior Vice President and Chief Architect at Openwave, he was responsible for development of next-generation products and the architecture for a broad range of IP-based handset-to-network solutions that enable information, communication and entertainment services.

See CIO and salary survey.  of VerdiSoft, a company that created data- routing infrastructure for network-attached devices and was acquired by Yahoo! in early 2005. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of Engineering at Liberate (Liberate Technologies, San Mateo, CA) A software company that specialized in the information appliance field. Formerly Network Computer, Inc. (NCI), a spin-off from Oracle in 1996, it changed its name in 1999.  Technologies in charge of its digital television and enterprise product lines. He came to Liberate during its formation, via the merger of Navio with Network Computer Inc (NCI See Liberate. ). At NCI McCormack was responsible for architecting and implementing the Corporate Network Computer. Prior to the spin out of NCI from Oracle, he led the forerunner A family of ATM adapters from Marconi (formerly Fore Systems). See Marconi.  initiative to build Oracle's PowerBrowser.

A native of Australia, McCormack holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Queensland The University of Queensland (UQ) is the longest-established university in the state of Queensland, Australia, a member of Australia's Group of Eight, and the Sandstone Universities.
