ZILOG TEAMS WITH YOKOGAWA FOR CUSTOMER PROGRAMMING SUPPORT.

Leading provider of integrated microcontroller solutions, ZiLOG(R), Inc. (NASDAQ:ZILG), has entered into a strategic relationship with leading Japanese device programmer, Yokogawa Digital Computer Corporation. The relationship means that ZiLOG's award-winning Z8Encore!(R) and eZ80Acclaim!(TM) 8-bit microcontroller (MCU) families now receive programming support for customers using Yokogawa's NetImpress on-board Flash device programmer. The relationship expands the reach of ZiLOG's product portfolio to include Yokogawa customers. In addition, ZiLOG customers can now use the NetImpress device programmer knowing that ZiLOG devices are fully supported.

The NetImpress device programmer is commonly used by electronic manufacturing companies in leading-edge large volume development sites whose end products include cell phones, intelligent home appliances, automotive and industrial equipment. Using NetImpress enables the programming of Flash microcontrollers of various types, allowing customers to completely assemble the electronic portion of a product before loading software into the internal Flash memory of the microcontroller. This effectively decreases the time from design win to volume ramp up. Customers enjoy a greater level of flexibility and are able to make last minute changes to product software or localize it for targeted end user markets. NetImpress also provides the ability to place serial numbers, IP addresses or similar product information in the Flash memory of the ZiLOG device. It helps the customer better manage inventory levels and supply the specific products ordered by their customers more rapidly.

"The relationship with Yokogawa is a very positive development for ZiLOG," said Ramesh Ramchandani, ZiLOG's executive vice president of sales and marketing. "As one of the leaders in its field, Yokogawa's support for the eZ80Acclaim! and Z8Encore! families provides NetImpress users with a turnkey solution to program ZiLOG devices once a product reaches the manufacturing phase. This development also opens up a whole range of programming choices due to the full-feature set offered by ZiLOG microcontrollers and increases our product and brand visibility still further internationally, especially in the Japanese market."

"Through our support for ZiLOG's popular processor families, we believe that both Yokogawa and ZiLOG customers can take advantage of NetImpress with its high-speed and flexible programming in the production line," said Kaz Sakurai, vice president of Yokogawa Digital Computer. "Customers can now benefit from an 'in-system' programming tool for their ZiLOG-based products."

ZiLOG MCUs are embedded in over a billion end-use devices worldwide in applications as diverse as consumer electronics and appliances, building control, factory automation, financial transaction processing, computer peripherals and the automotive after-market. The eZ80Acclaim! Flash MCUs share the same CPU core as the popular eZ80(R) microprocessors, yet also offer on-chip integrated memories (up to 256KB Flash and 16KB SRAM), core speeds up to 50MHz and an on-chip Ethernet MAC (eZ80F91 only). The Z8Encore! family of Flash MCUs offers up to 64KB of Flash memory with performance further enhanced by ZiLOG's register-to-register architecture, featuring a 20MHz CPU core, up to 4KB of RAM, and a 3-channel DMA controller.
