Data from a two-year, multi-center study involving six patients using ZEVEX' EnteraLite(R) Ambulatory Enteral Feeding Pumps show that there was no difference in MMC (the "digestive housekeeper" and marker for neuromuscular integrity of the bowel), between continuous and bolus, or intermittent, feedings. The EnteraLite is capable of delivering nutrition by both continuous and bolus feedings directly into the intestine. Commenting on the study, Alejandro F. Flores, M.D. said, "Many clinicians believe that continuous drip feedings are not natural, since most people do not take food by mouth continuously. These preliminary findings suggest that this conventional wisdom might not be totally correct." Dr. Flores went on to say, "Continuous feeding can be a more effective way for pediatric patients to receive the amount of nutrition that is essential for their growth, especially if they are intolerant to the accelerated feeding rates associated with bolus feeding. A portable feeding pump such as the EnteraLite, is well suited for this method of nutrition delivery, while allowing patients freedom to go about their daily activities."

"The EnteraLite Ambulatory Enteral Feeding Pump has become recognized as the most accurate and portable pump for enteral nutrition delivery. ZEVEX is pleased to have provided the pumps, as well as the funding for this study, which serves as further evidence of our commitment to improving patient outcomes," said David J. McNally, Executive Vice President. "Our involvement in studies such as this one provides us the clinical basis to be an innovator in the medical industry."
