 ZDS INTRODUCES EIGHT COST-EFFECTIVE PCs
BUFFALO GROVE, Ill., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Zenith Data Systems, a

Bull company, today announced eight new models of desktop personal computers for price-conscious buyers.
"The new personal computers in the Z-300/400 series are perfect for buyers who need performance, value and expandability," said Dan Rosensteel, ZDS vice president of marketing.
The Z-300/400 series of ZDS personal computers are based on the powerful Intel386 and i486 processors respectively and feature a range of disk drive options.
"These machines are excellent upgrade choices for PC owners who want to use the advanced programs that operate in the Microsoft Windows 3.1 environment," Rosensteel said.
The Z-325SX features a 25MHz Intel386SX processor. Other standard features include 2MB of RAM, which can be expanded to 16MB, and support for Super VGA video with 1024 x 768 resolution and 16 colors. The Z-325SX is available with either a 40MB or 80MB hard drive.
The Z-300/400 series is also available with a choice of three versions of the Intel486 processor.
"The Z-420SX and Z-425SX are designed for customers who require high performance, but don't want to pay a premium for numeric coprocessing capabilities," Rosensteel said.
 The Z-420SX features a 20MHz i486SX processor, while the Z-425SX uses a 25MHz i486SX processor. The Z-433DX, for more numerically intensive computing, uses a 33MHz i486DX processor.
The six PCs with i486 processors in the Z-300/400 series come standard with 4MB of memory, expandable to 40MB, all on the main system board. The PCs in the series are available with either an 80MB or 200MB hard drive.
The Z-300/400 series PCs have integrated Super VGA circuitry with 512K of memory for 1024 x 768 resolution at 16 colors on the system board, with the option of upgrading the video DRAM to 1MB for 1024 x 768 resolution and 256 colors.
"With five open expansion slots, three mass storage device bays and support for master/slave IDE drives, as well as optional SCSI devices, these systems can grow with a user's needs," Rosensteel said.
The Z-300/400 series models with 80MB drives or larger offer Microsoft Windows 3.1 pre-loaded and a mouse. ZDS bundles the Z-300/400 series with a choice of five monochrome and color monitors. The 40MB version of the Z-300/400 series with an i386SX processor starts at $1,039 with a monochrome monitor.
The Z-300/400 series with a 20MHz i486SX processor, an 80MB hard drive and monochrome monitor is priced at $1,409.
The Z-325SX is available immediately. The Z-420SX and Z-433DX will be available later this month and the Z-425SX will be available in early September.
The Z-300/400 series PCs are available directly from ZDS through its field sales force or through its new Z-DIRECT catalog. The company also has a network of more than 200 North American authorized resellers. The company has distribution arrangements with five major distributors (DataGo, Ingram Micro, Merisel, Microage and ROBEC), who in turn supply their dealers with ZDS products. A separate line of ZDS consumer-PC products is available through mass merchandisers and specialty retailers.
