ZD Net Launches ZD Net News, Breaks the Mold of News-Oriented Web Sites
Serving Up Much More than News Headlines, Site Delivers Context and Background Through 'Information Packages'
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Ziff-Davis Publishing's ZD Net, the most trusted and popular source of online computing information, today announced ZD Net News (http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn), a completely restructured edition of its previous news site, and an entirely new approach to providing timely industry coverage. Breaking the mold of existing news-oriented Web sites, ZD Net News serves up much more than up-to-the minute headlines and multimedia news sources. As one of eight new content "channels" rolled out in conjunction with the ZD Net site redesign announced today (see separate announcement), ZD Net News has been fully programmed to provide an "information package" with each story -- a collection of links to related resources from the main ZD Net site that add context and background.
"Through ZD Net News, we're differentiating ourselves from other news sites," said Dan Farber, vice president and editor-in-chief of ZD Net. "Until now, the successful news Web site was measured for its ability to provide users with instant access to breaking stories. While speed of delivery is still a critical factor, we're 'upping the ante' through ZD Net News by linking users to a range of additional resources that will give them full background on and education about each story."
When a user clicks on a specific news headline, a directory of links appears with the story, enabling users to access related resources such as: company background and financial information, product reviews, audio clips, discussions and live chats, and other stories and commentary.
ZD Net News provides users with quick access to the top breaking news stories generated by more than 50 news reporters at PC Week, Inter@ctive Week and MacWEEK, and supplemental news from major wire services like Reuters. It is also the main access point for popular news features, including AnchorDesk, Personal News, Company Finder, and PC Week Radio. Users can access news either from the main directory, or through major news categories, including Product News, Business News, Web News, and Rumors & Comment.
