Young views on race.

As demonstrated by recent violent outbreaks throughout the country, deteriorated race relations remain the pivotal moral challenge facing the nation today. A nationwide study of more than 1,100 American youth age 15 to 24 was recently conducted by People For the American Way, a 300,000-member nonpartisan constitutional liberties organization. Fifty percent of those studied described existing race relations as "generally bad." Distinct racial tension was noted between blacks and whites, particularly on issues affecting economic self-interest. For example, 10% of white youth view whites as victims of discrimination, while 46% of blacks see themselves as victims. Unsurprisingly, 65% of whites oppose affirmative-action initiatives toward minorities, while 60% of blacks favor such efforts.
