Nancy (from Anansi, the clever spider in African folktales) is the main character. Her family is somewhat strange and this story is about her discovery of who they are and what she is. Her parents love one another dearly, but are unable to live in the same home, so Nancy sometimes is with her mother, a weaver who never goes outside, and sometimes with her father, who lives in a simple structure on a rooftop.
