2006 Trainer of the Year Joins Lukas in Pari-Mutuel Wagering Company's Online 'Stable'

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. -- A decade after he left the employ of Hall of Fame thoroughbred trainer Wayne Lukas to start his own business, 2006 Trainer of the Year Todd Pletcher and his mentor are in the same "stable" again, this time as endorsement partners with Youbet.com, Inc. Youbet CEO Charles F. Champion announced the addition of Pletcher as an endorsement partner today. Last month Pletcher was named Trainer of the Year for the third year in a row at the 2006 NTRA Eclipse Awards. In 2006, the 39-year-old trainer set a single-season purse earnings record of $27,670,243 and broke Lukas' 19-year-old North American record for most stakes wins in a year. Lukas has been a Youbet endorsement partner since 2004.

By any standard, Pletcher is the dominant trainer in the sport of thoroughbred racing today. He has captured top honors in purse earnings the last three years, and in 2006 he broke the 19-year-old North American record for most stakes wins with 93, including 52 graded events and a career best 17 Grade 1 wins.

Pletcher set the season purse record on a remarkable day in October 2006 when Fleet Indian captured a win in the prestigious Beldame Stakes at Belmont Park, Honey Ryder won the Flower Bowl Invitational, English Channel won the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational Stakes, and India won the Fitz Dixon Cotillion Breeders' Cup Handicap at Philadelphia Park. His record for stakes wins was set a week later when two-year-old colt Scat Daddy won the $400,000 Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park.

Pletcher's record breaking season also includes a win with Bluegrass Cat in the $1.0 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park, NJ, followed by the colt's impressive second place finishes in the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes.

At this year's Eclipse Awards dinner in Los Angeles, two of Pletcher's horses took top honors. Wait A While was named the top 3-year-old filly and Fleet Indian won the award for top older female.

Todd began working for his father Jake Pletcher as a hot walker at the age of seven. He is a 1989 graduate of the University of Arizona where he earned a Bachelor of Animal Science degree in the Race Track Industry Program. Between his sophomore and junior years, he worked for Lukas as a groom at Arlington Park in Chicago. When he graduated, Lukas made him a foreman in his active stable in New York.

In 1991 he was promoted to assistant trainer for Lukas, splitting his time between New York and Florida. Pletcher was Lukas' East Coast Assistant until the end of 1995 where he was instrumental in the development of such great horses as Thunder Gulch, Harlan, Serena's Song, A Wild Ride, and Flanders. He took out his trainer's license in December of 1995 and saddled his first winner, Majestic Number, in February 1996 at Gulfstream Park in FL.
