 Co. decided to pull the plug on its much-hyped Mobile ESPN Mobile ESPN is a cellular phone-based sports information service offered by ESPN and Verizon Wireless. It will be carried on the Verizon Wireless Network after it is relaunched in May of 2007 as the ESPN MVP.  cellular network at a cost of $30 million. The sports network decided to call it quits after failing to attract customers with its branded phones, which ESPN ESPN Entertainment and Sports Programming Network  sold to customers after buying wholesale access to the Sprint Nextel Sprint Nextel Corporation (NYSE: S) is one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world. With 55 million subscribers, Sprint Nextel operates the third largest wireless telecommunications network in the United States (based on total wireless customers), behind  Corp. network. ESPN now plans to provide sports information that had been available on the network to other larger cellular operators. Disney Mobile, a separate service started earlier this year by the Burbank-based entertainment company aimed more toward families, will be unaffected by the decision, Disney said.
