In the six years since we began publishing Black Issues Book Review, we have witnessed phenomenal growth in the availability of books by black authors and about black culture and concerns. Black books are no longer published "ghetto fashion"--relegated only to February because it is Black History Month. A plethora plethora /pleth·o·ra/ (pleth´ah-rah)

 of titles are widely and continually available, not only in bookstores, which offer the luxury of hands-on browsing, but many titles, even those once hard-to-find ones, are now easily found on the Internet.

So does Black History Month still matter today, in this digital age? Should schools, bookstores and businesses still make a big deal of it? Our answer is a resounding re·sound

1. To be filled with sound; reverberate: The schoolyard resounded with the laughter of children.

 yes. Black History Month must still be celebrated, and more as great progress continues. The purpose of celebrations is to remind us of what is important so that we do not forget the past or take the future for granted. Each year, Black History Month gives us a reason to revisit re·vis·it

 is proud to pay tribute to Carter G. Woodson Carter Godwin Woodson (b. December 19 1875, New Canton, Buckingham County, Virginia — d. April 3 1950, Washington, D.C.) was an African American historian, author, journalist and the founder of Black History Month. , who began this tradition of recognition (page 46).

We are also proud to continue in Woodson's footsteps with a new offering for Black History Month--a redesigned Web site that we hope will be an online source for information and commentary for black bootdovers: www.bibookreview.cnm.

Please visit (or revisit) our site and experience the changes we've made. Discover that our site no longer offers the same fare as our printed pages, but rather a sampling from our magazine enhanced by interesting information too plentiful to include in our limited hardcopy space.
