(YPR) is proceeding with its plan to begin work on the Duckworth property located in the Matawin Gold Belt which stretches from Gorham Township, just north of Thunder Bay Thunder Bay, city (1991 pop. 113,946), SW Ont., Canada, on Thunder Bay inlet of Lake Superior. The city was created in 1970 by the amalgamation of the twin cities of Fort William and Port Arthur and two adjoining townships. , to Shebandowan Lake, approximately 15 kilometers west. Government and industry geologists now recognize the area as a distinct 'Gold Belt' comprising of approximately 100 gold occurrences, with most of them discovered in the last 10 years. A geological survey has suggested this gold belt is very similar, geologically, to the established mining camps of Timmins and Kirkland lake Kirkland Lake, mining town, E Ont., Canada. An important gold-mining center, gold was discovered there in 1911 and again in the 1980s at Harker. The mining of iron ore and tourism are two other important industries. , which have combined for more than 100 million ounces of gold production. Geologists feel the Matawin Gold Belt has excellent potential for hosting similar economic gold deposits. In 1995, local prospectors discovered gold near Shabaqua, approximately 60 kilometers west of Thunder Bay, which eventually led to an agreement whereby the major company, Battle Mountain Gold, will carry out further exploration. Battle Mountain carried out an extensive trenching program on this discovery in 1996 to expose the gold bearing bedrock. YPR and several other junior companies will be very active once the spring breakups is finished. YPR intends to begin drilling their targets as soon as weather permits in early May 1997.
