 recovery and synthesis.

The OPL4-ML is a single-chip, FM-enhanced wavetable synthesizer synthesizer

Machine that electronically generates and modifies sounds, frequently with the use of a digital computer, for use in the composition of electronic music and in live performance.
designed for all PC audio platforms from add-in cards to motherboards, and all PC audio applications from games to desktop music.

The new chip integrates a "wavetable-sample" ROM and General MIDI A standard set of 128 sounds for MIDI sound cards and devices (synthesizers, sound modules, etc.). By assigning instruments to specific MIDI patch locations, General MIDI provides a standard way of communicating MIDI sound.  processor with a wavetable synthesizer and an FM synthesizer on a single chip. The standard General MIDI interface allows games to directly access wavetable sound.

"The Yamaha OPL4-ML sound quality is a function both of the wave samples, made using Yamaha's own high-quality instruments, and our exclusive wavetable recovery and synthesis techniques," said Tim Lavelle, multimedia sales manager sales manager ngerente m/f de ventas

, Yamaha Systems Technology Inc. "Even the most discriminating developer will be pleased with the quality of the OPL4-ML sound and its affordability."

"Bringing highest quality sound to the widest audience is our mission," said Bob Starr, general manager sales and marketing, YST YST Yukon Standard Time . "This new product meets that goal."

Fat Man Certification

The 1MB wavetable sample ROM inside the OPL4-ML contains the same sample set as the stand alone ROM which was evaluated and certified by Fat Labs in compatibility tests earlier this year. These tests are designed to ensure that systems will work in a musically balanced way with any General MIDI software known.

"Based on our tests of the OPL4 with 1MB ROM, we expect that systems containing the OPL4-ML will also be certified and recommended for General MIDI music," said The Fat Man George Allister Sanger.

The Fat Man is the biggest name in music for multimedia, and the Fat Seal is the most credible and valued endorsement in the industry.

FM-Enhanced Wavetable

The Yamaha OPL4-ML provides the same rich FM-enhanced wavetable sound as its predecessors in the OPL4 family. Powerdown mode and selectable voltages optimize this new chip for portables and desktop applications.

Price and Availability

The OPL4-ML chip is offered in the $20 range in volume quantities. Engineering quantities can be available in November. Production quantities will ship in the first quarter of 1996.
