YWCA USA Names Lorraine Cole, Ph.D., Next CEO.
WASHINGTON, July 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The YWCA USA National Coordinating Board today announced that Lorraine Cole, Ph.D., has been appointed chief executive officer (CEO) of the YWCA USA. Dr. Cole, who currently serves as president and CEO of Black Women's Health Imperative, will join the organization on Sept. 18.
"Dr. Cole's experience in leading national nonprofit organizations and advocating for issues of importance to women and people of color positions her well to lead the YWCA USA," said YWCA USA National Coordinating Board Chair Suzanne Durham. "She is passionate and is the right person to help us advance our mission of eliminating racism and empowering women."
Prior to leading the Black Women's Health Imperative for nearly six years, Dr. Cole was executive director of the National Medical Association for six years. She earned her Ph.D. in Communication Science at Northwestern University and is a Certified Association Executive.
Dr. Cole is nationally recognized as a tenacious health advocate, advancing the health needs of minority and underserved populations. She has been a fellow of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, the Ford and Rockefeller foundations and the Avery Institute for Social Change.
