YOUTH SOCCER NOTEBOOK: SOCCER KIDS GO TO CAMARILLO : THIRD ANNUAL COOL CLASSIC WILL HAVE 145 TEAMS PARTICIPATING.Byline: Patrick Hipes Daily News Staff Writer In a summer club season that will see as many as four tournaments in a weekend from which local soccer teams may choose, there are precious few in the immediate area. One is this weekend, when the Camarillo Eagles will play host to 145 teams in the third annual Cool Classic at five venues throughout Camarillo. ``We're trying to fit the right competition to the right teams so everyone gets the good games,'' tournament director Steve Monka said. ``We want to have good games to attract the college scouts. That's the main thing, to get these kids exposure.'' Well, it's one of the things. With 13 age-group teams under the Camarillo Eagles crest, money is another driving force to host tournaments. Monka, the club earned nearly $20,000 in last year's tournament, which drew 180 teams paying $325 to $375 each. The money goes back into the program, paying for uniforms, fields and coaches. ``We're trying to raise money to get our own fields right now,'' said Maggie Faling, the club's president. ``Right now, we're stuck in the middle and have to please everyone.'' Field space is a problem for all clubs. Most in the area look longingly at the massive soccer complex recently completed in Lancaster, where AYSO AYSO American Youth Soccer Organization AYSO All Your Saturdays Occupied AYSO Alabama Youth Soccer Organization AYSO Albuquerque Youth Soccer Organization (Albuquerque, New Mexico) and club teams have groomed and consistent places to play, night and day. ``There are not a lot of competitive fields,'' said Monka, an Eagles coach who uses Valle Lindo School as the main field for the club. ``There are a lot of fields, but they're not in the shape to play and they don't have lights. ``In Lancaster, they do a good job with the fields and the city's backing them, which is real nice.'' Faling and Monka said they want to work with AYSO programs to bring Lancaster's idea to Camarillo, a small community that forces them to use players from nearby Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. and other Ventura County towns to round out teams. ``We don't have the population base,'' Faling said. ``For a long time our teams have struggled. For us out here in hicksville, it's harder to stay within the community.'' But they do have the Cool Classic.
