Special to the Daily News

The journeys taken by Real So Cal and the Camarillo Eagles to reach the finals of the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships haven't been without pitfalls along the way.

But both teams will have opportunities to add to their legacies as two of the nation's elite clubs this weekend at Pizza Hut Park Current Stadiums in Major League Soccer

favorite with an opportunity to capture its second national championship in four years.

"A lot of our big hitters sat out and some of their big hitters sat out, so it was a pretty boring game," Eagles coach Vince Thomas said.

"But our girls know it's on for Sunday."

Kelsey Owen (Nordhoff of Ojai/Dayton) scored her second goal of the tournament for the Eagles, who had their 14-game postseason unbeaten streak halted with the loss. The Eagles also suffered a loss in pool play before rebounding to win the 14-under national title in 2004, a scenario Thomas hopes will play out again Sunday.

"They know what's at stake. At this event, it's so hard to beat a team twice, so we're right where we need to be," he said. "The looks on the girls' faces when they left the field were not happy and they know they don't want to feel that way on Sunday. In a way, it's almost perfect."

Real So Cal's bid for a third consecutive national title has been anything but flawless, losing in the second round of the state tournament and tying its first match in regional competition, before running off five consecutive victories to secure a trip to Texas.

Real So Cal, which captured 14- and 15-under national titles competing as So Cal United, had its bid for a three-peat put in jeopardy with Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Michigan Wolves wolves
