YOUTH PROJECT RECEIVES $13,000 FUNDING FROM LOCAL BUSINESS KEEPS SERVICES RUNNING.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  -- After months of struggling to raise money, the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Youth Project has received temporary funding from a local business that will allow the counseling program to continue through the end of the year.

Landscape Development Inc. gave the organization a check for $13,000 Tuesday afternoon to cover its November expenses and pledged a second check in December.

Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , was thrilled to help out the teen counseling group. It was just six years ago the Youth Project helped Horton's son, now a graduate student at New York University New York University, mainly in New York City; coeducational; chartered 1831, opened 1832 as the Univ. of the City of New York, renamed 1896. It comprises 13 schools and colleges, maintaining 4 main centers (including the Medical Center) in the city, as well as the , through some difficult teenage issues.

``We are incredibly appreciative and grateful that they were able to provide us with this,'' said Kim Goldman, executive director for the Youth Project.

Timothy Myers, chief financial officer for the privately owned business, learned of the Youth Project's situation and called his boss during his morning run. The company, he said, likes to give back.

``We make our money from the greater community so we have an obligation to fund these worthy causes particularly when they are in trouble,'' he said.

The nonprofit A corporation or an association that conducts business for the benefit of the general public without shareholders and without a profit motive.

The group was found ineligible for the grant due to credential requirements, but district officials have promised to discuss the possibility of alternate funding.

But Goldman assured that the project is not in the clear.

``That we are in a position where we don't have to interrupt our services is tremendous, but we are not out of the woods yet,'' Goldman said.

``This is so we can buy some time. ... The pressure is still on and we have keep going at maximum speed.''
