Former city and sultanate, Java. It was located at the western end of Java between the Java Sea and the Indian Ocean. In the early 16th century it became a powerful Muslim sultanate, which extended its control over parts of Sumatra and Borneo. Penguins? Maybe the Midget Lightning? As the Ice Station Valencia's in-house summer league hockey teams gear up for next week's playoffs, the only question in local youth hockey circles is not if, but who will pull off this year's big upset. The in-house program's single-elimination format has produced unpredictable results on a predictable basis, the most recent example coming earlier this year in the girls' winter league, when a 12-and-under team with a losing record toppled a heavy favorite to win a championship. The regular season for all levels of the in-house program from Mini Mites to Midgets will conclude Aug. 20. The playoff semifinals for each age group will be played Aug. 26. Championship games will be played the next day. All four teams in the 18-and-under Midget, 13-and 14-year-old Bantam, 11-and 12-year-old Pee Wee, 9-and 10-year-old Squirt, 8-and-under Mite, and 5-and-under Mini Mite divisions automatically qualify for the playoffs. ``It's an opportunity for a team that's struggled all year to turn their game up a notch and sneak up Verb 1. sneak up - advance stealthily or unnoticed; "Age creeps up on you" creep up advance, march on, move on, progress, pass on, go on - move forward, also in the metaphorical sense; "Time marches on" on somebody,'' Ice Station's director of hockey operations Larry Bruyere said. ``It happens every year.''
