Candles that make perfect scents

PERFECT SCENTS: L.A. designer Mark Cutler is known for interiors that embody a sense of modern traditionalism. Now he's hoping to capture that same feeling with a line of naturally scented candles. Mark Cutler SCENTS come in three varieties - jasmine, gardenia gardenia: see madder.

``We thought it would be great to take the three most traditional 'old-lady scents' and reinvent them with a fresh new feeling,'' says Cutler with a laugh. To do so, he worked for almost a year with a professional perfumer or ``nose'' to get it right. ``He was very patient.''

BATHING BEAUTY

What comes to mind when you think of the bathroom? Cold? Characterless? Functional? The editors of Women's Day Special Interest Publications have a different outlook: fashionable.

JUST WHAT THE DESIGNER ORDERED: This season, happy is the new black.

Jonathan Adler, the celebrity designer whose work can be seen on ``The Today Show'' and ``Will & Grace,'' is adding author to his resume with ``My Prescription for Anti-Depressive Living'' (ReganBooks; $34.95), a new book that promises to transform any ho-hum house into a chic, cheery abode One's home; habitation; place of dwelling; or residence.
