LITTLE TREES, BIG EXHIBIT: Bonsai, those elegant miniature trees in shallow pots, have calmed savage souls for years as well as added beauty to interior settings. Beginning today, you can view some of the most creative designs by the Santa Anita Bonsai Society and the Shohin Society of Southern California at their joint exhibit at Ayres Hall in the Arboretum arboretum: see botanical garden.

Event hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today, Sunday and Monday with displays, sales of plants, tools and pots, and demonstrations held at 1 p.m. each day, where you'll learn that the shohin trees are bonsai that are no taller than 11 inches.

Admission to the Arboretum is $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and students, $1 for children 5 to 12, free to children under 5. Tram rides are an additional $2.

HAZELTON DELIVERS: Steve Ledoux, the Studio City homeowner who asked do-it-yourself expert Ron Hazelton for a new mailbox, finally got his wish. Hazelton, who hosts the cable TV program ``Ron Hazelton's HouseCalls,'' drove his van over to to Ledoux's home and helped him remodel re·mod·el
