YOUR PLACE THIS BOOK'S A FOUNTAIN OF ADVICE.

The simple rule is: take anything with the word ``simple'' in the title with a grain of salt. And you'll definitely need to be more than a simpleton sim·ple·ton
n.
A person who is felt to be deficient in judgment, good sense, or intelligence; a fool.

[simple + -ton (as in surnames such as Chesterton, Singleton).
to tackle the projects in the book ``Simple Fountains: 20 Step-by Step Projects for Indoors and Out'' by Dorcas Adkins (Storey Publishing; $16.95), but the good news is that you don't have to be a genius either. What you will need is lots of patience and time.

Even the easier projects require a healthy investment of both because they involve lots of different steps and skills to learn - from mask making and other forms of ceramics to working with wood and bamboo to dealing with water pumps and piping. You'll also need to be able to wield a drill, grinder Grinder

A slang term for a person who works in the investment industry and makes small amounts of money at a time on small investments, over and over again.

Notes:
and soldering iron among other tools. None of this is out of the range of the average home handyman, but if you're not real adept at handling a particular tool or haven't practiced a skill very often, it's going to add even more time to a project.

The instructions here are fairly straightforward, and they wisely urge you not to hurry. But like most self-help books, this one doesn't offer instructions on where to go or what to do when you run into the inevitable snag. (Make friends with the employees of your local hardware store.) Another warning: Certain potential problems aren't addressed. For instance, the fountains all need electricity to run the pumps. Outlets aren't always close to where you want to place your fountain. But if you're smart enough to build one of these attractive and ``soothing'' devices, then you can probably figure out what to do - or buy another book.
