Flag waving is an American tradition that extends beyond the front porch.

The likeness of the American flag has inspired patriotic posters, tea towels, bird houses, needlework needlework, work done with a needle, either plain sewing, mending, or ornamental work such as embroidery, quilting, smocking, hemstitching, fagoting, some kinds of lace making (see lace), patchwork, and appliqué.  pillows and patchwork quilts since the Victorian era.

The idea of Americana decor gained major credibility when Sister Parish, interior design's mother of invention, started decorating her Yankee socialite friends' homes with quilts, rag rugs, old needlepoint needlepoint: see lace.

Similar decorating trends occurred during World War II and the Vietnam War Vietnam War, conflict in Southeast Asia, primarily fought in South Vietnam between government forces aided by the United States and guerrilla forces aided by North Vietnam. . Now, with the war on terrorism Terrorist acts and the threat of Terrorism have occupied the various law enforcement agencies in the U.S. government for many years. The Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996, as amended by the usa patriot act , many are again searching for that flag-waving American country look at the mall and antique stores.

``Americana things were sort of forgotten since Fourth of July Fourth of July, Independence Day, or July Fourth, U.S. holiday, commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Celebration of it began during the American Revolution. , but now they bring up a whole new sense of emotion and pride,'' says Monica Wheat, co-owner of the new Cranberry House Antiques store in Woodland Hills.

Wheat reports people asking specifically for things from World War I and World War II, such as 48-star flags and ``Buy War Bonds'' posters to hang in their homes to show their pride.

``It's not that they're building shrines, but since Sept. 11 it really seems important to them to have something that they can incorporate into their existing decor,'' Wheat adds.

At boutiques such as Cherish'd in Woodland Hills, you can find a wide range of items by local artisans, including ``God Bless America'' needlepoint pillows, flag plates, star-shaped pillows cut from striped fabric, wooden Uncle Sam figures and patchwork quilts.

The patriotic parade also travels through major chain stores such as Sears for shower curtains with ships and flags; flag place mats by Warren Kimble at Robinsons-May, and stars-and-stripes bedding by Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger at Macy's.

If the decorating trend continues, expect to see Christmas trees decorated with replicas of Victorian paper ornaments that often featured flags and Uncle Sam.
