Always wished you could sneak into the Pacific Design Center where interior designers do their shopping?

Now's your chance.

Beginning March 30, the Pacific Design Center will open its doors to the public for a series of global design exhibits, starting with ``Ateliers d'Art de France,'' a display of work by 10 hot young designers who reinvent everyday objects with a decidedly French accent.

Other exhibitions include ``Do create = do + Droog Design'' from the Netherlands; ``A Way of Living for the Millennium'' from Italy; ``Superflat,'' a continuing exhibit featuring Japanese painting Japanese painting (絵画 Kaiga) , photography, works on paper, fashion and sculpture; The Hida Pacific Collection, featuring Japanese contemporary furniture never before seen in the U.S.; and ``Profiles in History,'' a film costume exhibit including gowns worn by Joan Bennett in ``Son of Monte Cristo'' and Joan Fontaine Joan Fontaine (born October 22 1917) is an Academy Award-winning American actress, who became an American citizen in April 1943.  in ``The Emperor Waltz.'' Exhibition closing dates vary, but most continue through May. Admission to ``Superflat'' is $3; other exhibits are free.

Lilac love-in: Descanso Gardens' Spring Festival of Flowers will be in full bloom full bloom

the stage of a crop when two-thirds of the plants are in flower; the crop is mature.
 on March 31 when the public is invited to take a fragrant tour through its one-acre lilac grove with more than 400 lilac shrubs.

Beginning at 9 a.m. lilac experts such as Robert Charles Martin will present a symposium on how to grow and care for the flowers as well as include them in your landscape.

There's a cake-break and then lilac curator Rudy Schaffer will conduct the lilac grove tours at noon and again at 3:30 p.m.

The Spring Festival of Flowers continues through May 13. Descanso Gardens is located at 1418 Descanso Drive, La Canada Flintridge. For more information, call (818) 952-440l.
