A TOUCH OF SPRING: Lladro, creator of fine porcelain, is dedicating this year to flowers and has created a special line of flower-themed figurines. Created by hand, these collectibles make wonderful gifts. Our favorites in the new line: Oopsy Daisy and Rosy Posey, darling girls skirted in flowers ($300 each); and Lilypad Love, a winged nymph nymph, in Greek mythology

MOTHERLY moth·er·ly
adj.
1. Of, like, or appropriate to a mother: motherly love.

2. Showing the affection of a mother.

adv.
In a manner befitting a mother.
ADVICE: My mom sometimes says she failed as a mother to her daughters because she didn't teach us everything about cooking, sewing, cleaning, etc. She just did it herself. Truth is she taught us quite a bit, just not everything. Now, two new books fill in the blanks: Joni Hilton's ``Housekeeping Secrets My Mother Never Taught Me'' and ``Cooking Secrets My Mother Never Taught Me'' (Prima Publishing; $16.95). Both books are packed with useful tips: ``A soft paint brush will dust miniblinds in a flash'' in the housekeeping book and ``Store an apple with your potatoes to keep them from sprouting roots'' in the cooking book. The cooking one also includes recipes, while the housekeeping one throws in ideas for entertaining guests. So, the secret's out: We can all learn to be just like Mom.
