YOUR PLACE CONQUER THE CLUTTER.Byline: Jaime Spangrude Got clutter? Finding a place to store all of your belongings can be quite overwhelming. If you're looking to de-clutter your home - and your life - but just don't know Don't know (DK, DKed) "Don't know the trade." A Street expression used whenever one party lacks knowledge of a trade or receives conflicting instructions from the other party. where to begin, organizational expert Peter Walsh Peter Walsh may refer to:
1. DON'T SWEAT THE LARGE STUFF: Start slow and be kind to yourself. A house takes a long time to become cluttered. Start small. Don't tackle huge tasks like the garage or overflowing closets. Start with cleaning the bedside table bedside table bed n → table f de chevet or one shelf in the garage. 2. ONE MAN'S TRASH ... : The Ratio Rule: For a way of getting a handle on something, look at the stuff you have and apply a ratio. For example, 4-to-1: for every four pairs of shoes you keep, let go of one. Donate that one to charity or give it away. 3. JUST HANGIN' AROUND: Reverse Coat Hanger Trick: At the start of summer, turn the clothes hanger back to front so that the hanger faces away and put the hanger in the correct way when you wear that piece of clothing. At the end of summer, you'll be able to see what you have and haven't worn. You'll find that we wear 20 percent of our clothes 80 percent of the time. You'll soon realize that those tie-dyed T-shirts from the '60s went out a long time ago. 4. CAUSING CHAOS: It's not always about the stuff. Clutter is symptomatic of something else, i.e. a trauma in one's life. Look at the reasons why you're holding onto the clutter. 5. READY, SET, GET ORGANIZED!: Create places and zones in the home. Every zone should have a particular function. For example, does your bill-paying take place at a desk or at the kitchen counter? Where is your laundry zone? Where does it land? If it's many different places, it's a problem. If you have a designated zone for things, you'll have that discipline for organization in the house. 6. LET'S GET DIGITAL: It's important to look at your physical space as well as your digital space. Digitize the stuff in your home by ``muscling up your PC.'' It gets rid of a ton of equipment clutter. Consolidate your DVDs, TV and computer. You can load photos and all of your CDs on one computer. 7. A CLEAN SLEEP: Make your bed every day. Mom was right - it makes the space cleaner and neater. It all starts with the small things. 8. FINDING A FRIEND: Find a de-cluttering buddy that isn't your husband/wife or boyfriend/girlfriend. Take the emotion out of clutter. If your husband tells you it's time It's Time was a successful political campaign run by the Australian Labor Party (ALP) under Gough Whitlam at the 1972 election in Australia. Campaigning on the perceived need for change after 23 years of conservative (Liberal Party of Australia) government, Labor put forward a to get rid of those 50 pairs of shoes, you're likely to answer back by saying it's time for him to get rid of his power tools. You want to have an honest buddy who will tell you to get rid of that dress because it looks unflattering on you. 9. MINIMIZE YOUR MAGS: Take control of the number of magazine subscriptions you have. You should only subscribe to Verb 1. subscribe to - receive or obtain regularly; "We take the Times every day" subscribe, take buy, purchase - obtain by purchase; acquire by means of a financial transaction; "The family purchased a new car"; "The conglomerate acquired a new company"; three or four - max. To gain control, only keep two back issues of the magazine. When the third month comes in, throw out the first month. If you accumulate all these magazines, you're never going to read them. If you're that interested, tear out one page and put it in a scrapbook A Macintosh disk file that holds frequently used text and graphics objects, such as a company letterhead. Contrast with "clipboard," which is reserved memory that holds data only for the current session. . 10. OUT WITH THE OLD: If you haven't seen it, worn it or used it in the last 12 months, you need to reconsider how vital it really is to your life. This helps to make a regular clean sweep clean sweep n to make a clean sweep (SPORT) → arrasar, barrer clean sweep n to make a clean sweep (Sport) → rafler tous les prix every six months in your home. If you are surrounded by extra things, you will start to get bogged down. For more information, go to www.peterwalshdesign.com or www.tlc.com. An array of products are available to help you organize.
