YOUPORN BOOM HARMS OUR KIDS; EXCLUSIVE Children's tsar demands crackdown on sites showing free sleaze for all.
AN explosion in free internet porn is leaving parents powerless to protect their kids, Scotland's children's tsar has warned.
Kathleen Marshall has demanded sleazy sites such as YouPorn prevent youngsters from watching sex videos.
Thousands of movies have been uploaded to the YouTube-style sites by professional and amateur pornographers.
But unlike other porn sites they require no credit or debit card payments to access - leaving them open to under-16s.
Our investigator was able to see hardcore clips without being asked their age, warned about the shocking content or register their details.
Children's Commissioner Marshall said: "Parents are virtually powerless to control their children's access to these materials except through filtering software, which is variable in its effectiveness.
"There is debate about the appropriateness of sex education for children but we allow profit-motivated sites to confront them with explicit material.
"If voluntary guidelines are not working, enforceable regulations should be carefully considered."
Web information firm Alexa lists YouPorn among the top 50 most accessed sites in the world. The most popular movie has been viewed more than 25 million times.
A string of Scottish films have been uploaded, including a couple from Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, having violent sex.
The man yells threateningly: "Do a porno face" and slaps her face.
Another clip - viewed 172,000 times - shows a lap dancer at a club in Edinburgh doing a private routine. She seems unaware she is being filmed.
Other videos show hen nights, where male strippers force spectators to take part in graphic sex acts with them. It is unclear if any of the people in the clips agreed to the footage being posted.
YouPorn does not list a contact address.
It is rumoured the owners are based in Germany, with the site run from a hosting service in Texas.
The boss of adult movie firm Vivid Entertainment claims he was offered YouPorn for pounds 20million in May 2007.
Steve Hirsch refused the offer from Stephen Paul Jones.
Labour Justice spokesman Richard Baker said: "I want to see action taken to ensure Scots kids are protected."
Independent MSP Margo MacDonald said: "These websites are nasty, cruel and exploitative. There must be a way of blocking such material."
