YOUNG SINK HOOPS FOR ELKS.

LANCASTER - Lancaster Elks Lodge No. 1625 held its annual Elks Free Throw Hoop Shoot competition Dec. 11 at New Vista Middle School for 8- to 13-year-olds.

The first-place winners will go on to compete in the Elks Inland District level competition to be held at the Jan. 8 at New Vista Middle School.

The winners of the competition were:

Boys 8 to 9 - Tyrae Crayton, Quartz quartz, one of the commonest of all rock-forming minerals and one of the most important constituents of the earth's crust. Girls, 10 to 11 - Taylor Irvine, New Vista Middle School, first; Taylor George, Sacred Heart School, second; and Davida Lewis, Sunnydale School, third.

Boys, 12 to 13 - Cody Moore, Alamosa Middle School, first; Matthew Rojas, Sacred Heart School, second; and Deqwaun Felton, Piute Middle School, third.

Girls, 12 to 13 - Melanise Chapman, Sacred Heart School, first; and Chelsea Zelinsky, Piute Middle School, second.

Those who competed Dec. 11 represented the winners of contests held at local schools.

The winners of the Inland District competition composed of 11 Elks Lodges will continue to the Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  competition, to be held Feb. 12, also at New Vista Middle School.
