YOUNG FILMMAKERS IN LIGHTS.Byline: Tere Marshall Daily News Staff Writer This week's seventh annual community Clarita Awards ceremony proved inspiring, offering a glimpse of the budding creativity of tomorrow's entertainment industry leaders. The awards, bestowed Wednesday night, went to producers, directors, editors, writers and actors - all high school students who submitted 10-minute films for the competition. Raw and unpolished, these films sent a message beyond the subject matter of the story portrayed. The winners were as follows: Best Feature Film: ``Spoiled Little Brat,'' Michael Biener Best Directing: ``Spoiled Little Brat,'' Michael Biener Best Acting: ``Dumb Luck,'' Allison Howell Best Documentary: ``A Vision For the Future,'' Julie Miller Best Music: ``Anti-Smoking,'' Howard Harris Best Sound: ``Challenged,'' Ashley Carpenter Best Special Effects special effects, in motion pictures, cinematographic techniques that create illusions in the audience's minds as well as the illusions created using these techniques. Some common examples are the use of rear-screen projections, in which previously photographed material is projected behind the actors; the filming of miniature objects in such a way that they look life-size; and the use of animation techniques to create realistic looking scenes, creatures, or: ``Spoiled Little Brat,'' Michael Biener Best Editing: ``Challenged,'' Ashley Carpenter Best Cinematography cinematography: see motion picture photography.: ``Challenged,'' Ashley Carpenter Best Writing: ``Challenged,'' Ashley Carpenter Best Public Service Announcement: ``Anti-Smoking,'' Howard Harris Best Makeup, Hair and Costume: ``Reflections,'' Jennifer Shapiro and Marisa Rosen. The winners were awarded $200 savings bonds. Two of the films that were awarded were nominated in seven categories. ``Challenged,'' about a disabled girl and her trials at school, and ``Spoiled Little Brat'' about a boy with a doting mother, were nominated for Best Sound, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Directing and Best Picture. In addition, ``Challenged'' was nominated for Best Makeup, Hair and Costume and Best Writing and ``Spoiled Little Brat'' was nominated for Best Acting and Best Special Effects. ``It Should Have Been Me,'' about a teen-age drunk driver who causes the death of a friend, was nominated for different awards including Best Special Effects, Best Directing, Best Picture, Best Writing and Best Editing. The entertainment for the evening was provided by comedian Doug Jones, singer Tanya Barrera, TV personality Rex Ratsko, dancers from Studio 84, musicians Hannah Madigan and Simone Lockhart and the Hart High School Chieftains Band under the direction of David Lobe. The judges were professionals in the entertainment industry. The Clarita Awards are produced by Rick Byrum and R.J. Kelly and are designed to encourage young filmmakers.
