Let's face it, some SoCal institutions are more missable than others. After all, who needs Kurt Warner when you've got Shaquille O'Neal? Or the Chandlers when you've got the Gettys and the Beatty-Benings?

Just don't let some other gangster metropolis try to make off with our Hollywood Bowl, which will launch its 79th season of champagne, strings and starlight with a June 23 gala honoring John Williams. The ever- popular maestro-conductor is being honored as the first inductee into the newly created Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame.
