Elementary

My elementary students love artworks This article is about the software drawing application. For art objects, see work of art.

ArtWorks is an advanced vector drawing package for RISC OS created by Computer Concepts (now Xara) in 1991. It has been developed by MW Software since 1996.
 that are open to various interpretations. One of their favorite lessons is to create an artwork in the style of Marc Chagall. I even use a variation of the lesson in a prison school. In that situation the prisoners incorporate what they draw in a computer-assisted design project.

This project fulfills the essential learning for my state and the national standards. Students learn about basic art vocabulary, use curiosity, show originality o·rig·i·nal·i·ty

, become involved in creative play, practice blending and shadow techniques with chalk, and discuss artworks in terms of history, time, and place.

The materials used are 18 x 24" (46 x 61 cm) white construction paper, pencil, black fine-point water-based markers, and chalk or pastels. The project lasts three 45-minute sessions or three 30-minute sessions. As an introduction to the lesson, students see the artwork of Marc Chagall and are told about his history and his life.

Students are asked what they see within Marc Chagall's work. Some notice crosses, upside-down houses, musical instruments, people dancing, abstract faces, red and green faces with white lips, women milking cows inside faces, and other unique things. I introduce the term Surrealist in the context of dreamlike images.

Students are then asked to use their creativity and draw dreamlike images in the style of Marc Chagall. After they sketch sketch, a rapidly executed kind of pictorial note-taking. The sketch is not usually intended as an autonomous work of art, although many have been considered masterpieces in their own right.  their image in pencil, I ask them to outline their sketch with a marker and fill it in with chalk.

For evaluation purposes, I have developed a rubric RUBRIC, civil law.
