YORK INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES PLANS TO SHIFT RECIPROCATING CHILLER PRODUCTION

 /REPEATING FROM YESTERDAY/
YORK, Pa., June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- York International Corporation

(NYSE: YRK) announced today it will cease production of its air cooled and water cooled reciprocating chillers at the Grantley Avenue plant in York, effective Aug. 20, 1993.
Approximately 80 employees will be permanently displaced as a result of this decision.
Production of these products will be shifted to other York manufacturing facilities in San Antonio; Basildon, England; Monterrey, Mexico; Santa Fe Springs, Calif.; and Hattiesburg, Miss. The decision to shift production of these products was reached after careful analysis revealed significant overall cost savings would be realized by manufacturing these products at other York facilities. These cost savings will be the result of both lower manufacturing costs and lower freight costs since these moves will put manufacturing closer to York's customers. In addition, customer responsiveness will improve with reduced shipping times. Due largely to the intensely competitive nature of this particular market, lowest product cost and customer responsiveness are essential to long-term market success.
York International is the world's largest independent company devoted solely to the manufacture and service of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment and systems. The company has offices in more than 100 countries, and employs more than 12,000 people worldwide.
