YORK CHEMICAL TO ACQUIRE SUSTAIN TRADEMARK FROM PPG

 IRVING, Texas, Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- York Chemical Corp. announced today that it has reached an agreement in principle with PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG) for York to acquire the trademark and marketing rights to PPG's line of Sustain pool care products.
 PPG will continue to manufacture the calcium hl?orite-based products, as well as patented Sustain Summer Shield and Winter Shield products.
 According to York Chemical President Al Castagnoli, York will also continue to market a full line of water balance and specialty ancillary products under the Sustain brand name.
 PPG introduced the Sustain product line for the 1989 pool season as the only pool care system with a 100 percent algae-free guarantee. Donna Magill, PPG's general manager, calcium hypochlorite, said, "This new marketing arrangement will continue to provide authorized Sustain distributors and dealers with the quality products they've come to expect, while strategically enhancing the future of the product line."
 York's Castagnoli added, "By focusing on our mutual strengths -- namely PPG's expertise in manufacturing and quality control, and York's packaging, distribution and marketing expertise -- the Sustain product line is positioned to grow now more than ever before."
 Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
 York Chemical, based in Irving, is a major supplier of chemicals and related materials to the pool industry.
 PPG Industries, based in Pittsburgh, is a global producer of chemicals, coatings and glass.
