YMWREA members gear up for another busy year.It's hard to believe that we are already half way through the year--2005 has been off to a roaring ROARING. To date, we have raised over $15,000 pledged from our members, which shall be presented as a donation to the noteworthy organization, which constructs and helps make housing affordable for low-income residents. In the fall we will once again gather in Central Park in conjuncture with Central Park Conservancy to help maintain and beautify Central Park. Membership is quickly approaching 400 people with the addition of ten terrific new members who joined the organization during the first half of the year. Perhaps the most notable achievements thus far have been the exceptional speakers who have addressed our organization accompanied by a record turnout of members who gather the second Tuesday of every month at The University Club. In January, Kent Swig filled the large assembly room with over 190 members and their guests eager to hear his macro perspective on recent influences in the marketplace along with his company's recent downtown office building acquisitions. In February, Charles A. Gargano, Chairman, Empire State Development Corp, spoke about the exciting changes our city is facing. In March, Dottie Herman, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate, shared her expert perspective on the market. In April, Robert Speyer, Managing Director, Tishman Speyer Properties Tishman Speyer Properties is a leading real estate building and operating company set up in 1978 by two founding partners, Jerry Speyer and Robert Tishman. Overview , announced plans to develop five class A office buildings in Long Island City. In May, Thomas May, Thomas, 1595–1650, English author, b. Sussex, grad. Cambridge, 1612. Global Commercial Real Estate addressed the trends of market capital chasing global investments. In June, Peter Kalikow, Chairman, Metropolitan Transportation Authority, discussed the city's aging infrastructure. As I pledged in the beginning of the year, we will continue to have outstanding, industry leaders as featured monthly speakers address our members when we resume our regular schedule this September as we break over the summer months.
