YEMEN - Trouble Ahead? The return route of Neo-Salafi fighters from Iraq with the intention of striking Western targets in Yemen suggests that the period of relative calm could be nearing an end. It is too soon to tell if this is a new generation of fighters, as the "junior" in Asyan's assumed name would suggest. After the prison break, it is not clear if the Yemeni society is 90% al-Qaeda free. Advocates of real friendship between San'a' and Washington stress that for Yemen to become secure and truly reach Bajammal's figure, it will have to cease being passive and become a more active partner in the US-led war against global terrorism. |
