YELLOW IMPROVES TRANSIT TIME ON SEVERAL ROUTES
OVERLAND PARK, Kan., July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Yellow Freight System,

one of the nation's largest longhaul LTL carriers announced recently that it has improved transit time on 18 of its major routes.
Officials of the motor freight carrier said the new service called METROLINER offers two-day transit time from origin to destination for customers in 11 major metropolitan areas as well as dozens of surrounding smaller communities. The new service began July 6, on many of the routes. Others will be added in August.
The major metropolitan areas include Buffalo, Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, St. Louis, St. Paul, Denver, Atlanta, Cleveland, Dallas, and Kansas City.
The new service is in response to customers' need for faster transit times and offers the value and quality customers have always received from Yellow, according to Yellow President Reid Armstrong. "Customers are rapidly becoming more service sensitive and we are responding. This will represent an enhancement of service for existing customers and attract new customers whose two-day service needs can now be met by Yellow. We believe it will simplify customers shipping operations.
"Anytime we can enhance service to customers, they have the opportunity to improve service to their customers. And METROLINER offers an economic alternative to a premium expedited or exclusive- use service," Armstrong said.
Yellow formerly provided three and four day transit times on many of the routes now designated as METROLINER routes. The company tested the two-day concept from Denver to Kansas City, and St. Paul/Minneapolis last year to ensure dependable performance before it expanded the number of two-day routes.
"This is an important initiative for us. We've made the necessary adjustments within our system to ensure dependable performance. We're looking forward to adding more routes in the future," Armstrong commented.
Armstrong indicated that METROLINER was one of several new services being considered by the company to improve transit times and service.
In addition to the introduction of two-day service, Yellow expects to offer customers transatlantic service by year's end. The motor carrier announced in March it had forged an alliance with Frans Maas, a Netherlands-based transportation and logistics group to develop an import and export service between all points in North America and Western Europe. Officials say the service will offer improvements over existing LTL transatlantic offering by assuring customers of simplicity, convenience and reliability in international shipping. Details are expected to be released in early Fall.
