YARC Announces Ethernet Drive for the CalComp CrystalJet.NEWBURY PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 13, 1998--YARC Systems Corp. (OTC/BB:YARC YARC You're Absolutely Right, Commander (military slang) ) Monday announced a new interface technology that allows its RIP products to interface with the next generation of wide-format printers, such as the CrystalJet from CalComp Technology Inc. (Nasdaq:CLCP CLCP Certified Literate Community Program ). The Centronics Parallel Interface is currently the industry standard for connecting printers to computers. But recently, wide- format printers have been getting faster and faster, and the Centronics interface An earlier, 36-pin parallel interface for connecting printers and other devices to a computer. It transferred data asynchronously at 150 Kbytes/sec and used an Amphenol Micro-Ribbon plug and socket, a common connector for telecommunications equipment. cannot supply the higher data rates needed by these faster printers. For example, the CrystalJet can produce a 12- square-foot 360-dpi color print in five minutes. YARC has developed a special version of the XP Server that sends the data to the CrystalJet using an Ethernet connection instead of the previous Centronics interface. Data can now be transmitted between the XP and the CrystalJet at up to 30 megabytes per minute, a speed that ensures that the CrystalJet will print at its maximum rated speed. The first shipments of the Ethernet-based XP Server will occur concurrently with initial shipments of the CrystalJet, currently expected in May 1998. Paul Duffy, general manager of YARC Systems Ltd. (YARC's U.K. subsidiary), said, ``YARC's distributors throughout Europe have been waiting expectantly for the CrystalJet printers for some time now, and we are delighted that they will get full productivity from their new machines by using our Ethernet server.'' Dr. Karsten Jeppesen, YARC's vice president, R&D: ``One major feature of our new technology is the ability to operate the CrystalJet on a totally different Ethernet connection from the main network wiring. YARC uses two Ethernet cards -- one for connection to the computer workstations and one for connection to the printer.'' YARC designs and manufactures high-performance systems for the personal-computer and digital-printing marketplace. YARC has long been the acknowledged leader in Mac 3D Graphics multiprocessing technology. Since 1993, YARC has focused its expertise on optimizing PostScript interpretation. YARC's XP Server is a plug-and-play networked PostScript Color Print Server for Canon Laser Copiers and wide-format printers from ENCAD, Hewlett-Packard, CalComp, Mutoh, Graphtec, Roland and Selex.
