Among those regularly dressing up their vessels - and often winning - are member's of the club's junior sailors group, who will be decked out in costumes of different eras for this year's theme, ``Holidays through the century.'' ``It's a lot of work to put a float together and we couldn't do it without working like a team,'' said 16-year-old Eric Widmer Dr. Eric Widmer (born 1940 in Beirut) is an American scholar and educator. He was educated at Deerfield, Williams, and Harvard. After finishing his Ph.D, he joined the faculty at Brown; he would go on to spend much of his career there as a dean. , a junior at Westlake High School Westlake High School may refer to:
``As many as 20 kids will be working on it,'' said Holly Fleming, the group's adviser. ``The only parental participation is to purchase the supplies and supervise. The kids do all the work. They come up with the design and they put it all together.'' The parade is a tradition at the club. Boats start near the dock at the yacht club in the evening and circle around the lake's island. Awards will be given for best theme, most creative boat, best overall and best-decorated in the non-member category. ``I enjoy watching the parade,'' said Larry Averill, club spokesman. ``People use a lot of lights and tinsel tin·sel n. 1. Karyn Gussin, former adviser to the junior sailors, also remembers several good floats from years past. Once, kids in her group turned the boat into a globe and wore costumes from different countries. Another time they decorated the boat like a Jack-in-the-box. ``The parade is fun for the whole family,'' Gussin said. ``We all drink hot chocolate and apple cider

The whole neighborhood loves it.'' Megan O'Linn, the group's junior commodore, said a sign, made up of 2,000 flashing lights, will beam the dates 1900 and 2000. Children on the boats will be dressed in styles from each decade. ``The person from the 1950s will be wearing a poodle skirt and we'll have people dressed up as hippies for the 60s,'' said 13-year-old O'Linn. ``We'll even have a Y2K See Y2K problem and Y2K compliant. Widmer, who has been sailing since he was 7, said he enjoys working on the float and being out on the water. ``It's nice to be outdoors and away from everything,'' he said. ``In retirement, I want to sail around the world.''
