Xyvision develops new EDGAR conversion module for SEC filings.WAKEFIELD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 13, 1997--Xyvision, Inc. announced today that it has developed a new output module for its Xyvision Production Publisher (XPP XPP Windows XP Professional (Microsoft) XPP XML Pull Parser XPP Xyvision Production Publisher XPP Extreme Processor Platform XPP XML for Publishers and Printers XPP XPML Page Parser XPP Xyvision Parlance Publisher ) application called XyEDGAR, that easily converts Xyvision typeset files directly into the EDGAR Edgar or Eadgar (both: ĕd`gər), 943?–975, king of the English (959–75), son of Edmund, king of Wessex. In 957 the Mercians and Northumbrians rebelled against Edgar's brother Edwy and chose Edgar as their king. (Electronic Data Gathering Analysis and Retrieval) format required by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Developed in conjunction with the FPNet, the international financial printing network, XyEDGAR will provide significant time savings for companies filing financial reports electronically with the SEC. Several FPNet members have purchased the XyEDGAR module, scheduled for release early in the first quarter of calendar year 1997. "This new technology means public companies will be able to create SEC files directly from the file used for the typeset document. Timing is critical for these fast-paced, closely regulated filings, and there is often little warning before a request for substantial changes," says Craig Sisler, chair of the FPNet Technology Committee and IS Director at Capital Printing in NYC NYC abbr. New York City NYC New York City . "The ability to use the same file for typesetting typesetting: see printing. typesetting Setting of type for use in any of various printing processes. Type for printing, using woodblocks, was invented in China in the 11th century, and movable type using metal molds had appeared in Korea by the 13th and electronic filing will save valuable time and reduce the chance of errors. When last minute changes are made, they automatically will be included in the electronic version." Financial printers who file financial documents on behalf of their customers, or who provide preprocessed materials for their customers to file themselves, need software that enables them to use the same source file for both the typeset and electronic version. Xyvision's XyEDGAR module enables users to automatically produce the electronic filing directly from the master typeset version within minutes after final changes have been made. "Three design goals motivated the development of the XyEDGAR module: ease of use, reliability, and workflow simplification," says Jonathan Parsons Jonathan Parsons (November 30 1705-July 19 1776) was a New England clergyman during the late colonial period and a supporter of the American Revolution. Born in West Springfield, Massachusetts, he was the youngest son of Deacon Benjamin Parsons and Margaret Marshfield of , Xyvision's Director of XPP Technology. Ease of Use The XyEDGAR output module optimizes the formatting of the EDGAR text version automatically and robustly, without requiring that an operator add special mark-up or manually rework re·work tr.v. re·worked, re·work·ing, re·works 1. To work over again; revise. 2. To subject to a repeated or new process. n. the file. Reliable Output Using the detailed knowledge about page position and character location contained within the formatted Xyvision Production Publisher (XPP) database, the XyEDGAR module converts the proportionally spaced typeset file to a monospaced file, where all text elements, including complex tables are output in accordance with the EDGAR format. This approach produces consistent, reliable, electronic output regardless of any tags or codes used in the original typeset file. Workflow Simplification XyEDGAR also simplifies workflow by enabling users to produce the EDGAR file with a few simple keystrokes after all corrections and updates have been entered into the typeset version. Financial printers work under extraordinarily tight deadlines and changes are frequently made right up to the last minute. In addition, penalties are very high for missing a filing deadline, often leaving little time to produce the EDGAR version. The XyEDGAR module allows an operator to work on a single source, the typeset version. When the typeset version is finally approved, the operator can produce the EDGAR filing within a few minutes.
