Xyvision Introduces Parlance Ambassador, a Comprehensive Solution for Managing the Document Localization Process.

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 1997--

Significantly cuts time and cost required to produce

multi-language versions

At the SGML/XML 97 Conference today, Xyvision unveiled Parlance Parlance - A concurrent language.

["Parallel Processing Structures: Languages, Schedules, and Performance Results", P.F. Reynolds, PhD Thesis, UT Austin 1979].
(TM) Ambassador, a comprehensive solution for managing the process of translating text and graphics information into multiple languages. Layered on top of Xyvision's component management system, Parlance Document Manager, Parlance Ambassador provides product manufacturers, software developers, and publishers with a comprehensive toolset to efficiently manage and automate To turn a set of manual steps into an operation that goes by itself. See automation.  the process of localizing information products for international markets.

Benefits achieved by Parlance Ambassador include:

-- Improved translation turnaround time (1) In batch processing, the time it takes to receive finished reports after submission of documents or files for processing. In an online environment, turnaround time is the same as response time.

-- Reduced translation cost

-- Improved quality of translated documents

"Prior to installing Xyvision's Parlance Document Manager and Parlance Ambassador it could take up to six months to complete in-country translations and produce and deliver one manual," said Tom Dupont Dupont, DuPont, Du Pont, or du Pont may refer to: Companies
  • E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company (DuPont), the world's fourth largest chemical company
  • Du Pont Motors
, Vice President of Sales, Tweddle Litho. "With our new system we have cut that time down to two to three weeks."

Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) is a maker of diesel and natural gas engines whose corporate headquarters is located in Columbus, Indiana.
Engine, another Xyvision customer, recently implemented the Parlance Ambassador with an integrated machine translation system. When comparing the cost of translation with the new system to previous translation costs, Cummins projects a 65 to 70% decrease in translation costs.

Most companies today that need to produce documents in multiple languages lack a standard process for localizing information. Often, translation can only occur when the source language version is complete and approved for publication, creating a long distribution time between the source language and other language versions. This causes problems for such industries as automotive manufacturers, who need to ship new models to many countries simultaneously. Companies that attempt to translate documentation at the same time it is written have difficulty coordinating the numerous revisions and versions of both text and graphics, often resulting in redundant or inconsistent Reciprocally contradictory or repugnant.

Things are said to be inconsistent when they are contrary to each other to the extent that one implies the negation of the other.

The Parlance Ambassador toolset includes:

-- Data Update: Links updated source language components to applicable target market document structures.

-- Translation Project Creation: Locks information components to prevent modification while being localized Translated into the spoken language of the country. See localization. . Can also forward data to machine translation tools if needed.

-- Translation Export: Creates a translation package for in-country translators This is primarily a list of notable Western translators. Tweddle Litho Case Study

Tweddle Litho -- an information management, digital imaging, and printing firm specializing in automotive Owner's and Maintenance manuals -- uses Parlance Document Manager to create and update automotive information. Some information, such as how to adjust a seat belt, is common to every document. Other information, such as headlight specifications, varies from country to country based on local regulations. Information elements are stored by subject in a source language document structure within the Parlance database. A separate document structure is created for each target language. When information changes in the source version, Parlance Ambassador links the updated source language component to the applicable target version and then creates a translation package to send to an in-country translator.

The in-country translator localizes the data and passes the translated information back to Tweddle Litho's Parlance database, where it is stored with the appropriate target market document structure. When all updates are complete, Parlance Document Manager assembles the correct components for each target language and forwards it to Xyvision Production Publisher for final composition and pagination (1) Page numbering.

(2) Laying out printed pages, which includes setting up and printing columns, rules and borders. Although pagination is used synonymously with page makeup, the term often refers to the printing of long manuscripts rather than ads and brochures.
. The entire process of translation and production, which previously could take up to six months, is now completed in two to three weeks.

Parlance Ambassador is available now at a base price of $25,000. For more information contact Xyvision's Marketing and Sales department at 781-245-4100.
