Xybernaut Confirms Deployment of Service-Based Software Product for Facilities Management.

Business Editors

FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 7, 2003

General Availability Announced With Virginia County Now Using Solution to Increase Efficiency, Accuracy and Visibility For Facility Scheduling

Xybernaut Corporation (Nasdaq:XYBR XYBR Xybernaut Corp (stock symbol) ) today announced deployment of a service-based software solution developed to help school, park and recreation departments manage systems related to facilities scheduling and maintenance.

Most school, park and recreation organizations require management oversight of internal and community use of facilities (most noticeably classrooms, athletic fields and gymnasiums) as part of their day-to-day operations. The first offering in this Xybernaut facility management solution family, referred to as Xybernaut Athletic Facility Scheduling System (AFSS AFSS Automated Flight Service Station
AFSS Air Force Security Service
AFSS Autonomous Flight Safety System
AFSS Automatic Fire Suppression System
AFSS Advanced Fire Support System (US Army)
AFSS Alberta Frontier Shootists Society
), was developed over a 18 month period and was designed to handle scheduling and management of athletic facilities for public schools and parks.

One of the first deployments of the AFSS solution was in Northern Virginia Northern Virginia (NoVA) consists of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties and the independent cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax, Manassas, and Manassas Park.  where Xybernaut was engaged to develop a solution that provides a comprehensive system for scheduling, reservations, permitting and related maintenance monitoring of its school and park athletic facilities. The AFSS solution is designed to help organizations charged with providing recreation, leisure activities and life-long learning services to communities. Scheduling community use of public athletic facilities is an important service many county and/or municipal governments offer.

"Beyond design/construction, to repair/maintenance and on-site security, one of the most challenging responsibilities for municipal facilities coordinators is making public facilities available to community members in an equitable and efficient manner," stated Steven A. Newman, president of Xybernaut. "At the time the Xybernaut AFSS project began, this particular Virginia county was processing over 6,600 requests annually for community use of athletic facilities, scheduling over 870 ball fields and 227 gymnasiums. Though the Xybernaut AFSS solution covers numerous facilities management The management of a user's computer installation by an outside organization. All operations including systems, programming and the datacenter can be performed by the facilities management organization on the user's premises.  tasks, each facility scheduling solution is built-to-order or customized based on specific needs of the customer."

Parks and Recreation or Community Development departments often coordinate facility management. These groups schedule fields owned by the local governments including regional parks and public schools.

In Virginia, the Xybernaut AFSS solution replaced a 12-year-old legacy system with the objective to create an enterprise-wide "Intranet" web-enabled system.

The AFSS was also tailored to solve many critical facility-scheduling issues including: coordination between facility users and county staff; fees accounting; maintenance monitoring; and related administrative functions.

The AFSS employs a Microsoft Internet Information Server See IIS.

The AFSS software is designed to support data capture, archive and/or delivery using any open standards-based network -- wireless, Internet, intranet, microwave, RF, cellular, satellite, etc. In addition to this initial customer deployment, Xybernaut is now able to provide customized scheduling solutions within other communities building on the expertise and know-how gained in its initial deployments. Xybernaut also plans to expand its product offerings for municipal organizations nationwide.
