Ximeta Enables Users to Customize Local or Network Storage With New NetDisk Enclosure; Powered by the Company's Unique NDAS Technology, the New Portable Enclosure Features Ethernet and USB 2.0 Connections and Can Be Customized With 3.5-Inch Hard Disk Drives.

FREMONT, CALIF. -- Ximeta, the pioneer of Network Direct Attached Storage (NDAS NDAS Network Direct Attached Storage (Ximeta Drives)

) technology, today announced the availability of its dual port NetDisk(TM) Enclosure. Featuring dual Ethernet and USB USB
 in full Universal Serial Bus

Type of serial bus that allows peripheral devices (disks, modems, printers, digitizers, data gloves, etc.) to be easily connected to a computer.
2.0 connections, the portable NetDisk Enclosure uses off-the-shelf 3.5-inch IDE drives for instant, scalable network and local storage, without a server, on both Mac and PC platforms. The NetDisk Enclosure is available today with an MSRP MSRP Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price

 of $79.99.

The NetDisk Enclosure is fully scalable and can accommodate up to 500GB(1) drives. It enables users to offload files from the local drive and place them in a protected, shared network environment. NetDisk is ideal for personal and SMB (1) (Small to Medium-sized Business) Also called "SME" (small to medium-sized enterprise), it refers to companies that are larger than the small office/home office (SOHO), but not huge.  applications, including video, photo, and music storage; gaming; file sharing Copying files from one computer to another. See peer-to-peer network, file sharing protocol and file and printer sharing. ; back up/archiving; centralized storage; and multimedia streaming. NDAS is also optimized for high performance applications, including video editing, video surveillance, graphic arts, databases, and image libraries.

It is incredibly simple to set up, with shared storage ready to go within minutes. Users simply plug in a standard IDE hard drive, connect it to an Ethernet Switch, Router or USB port, and install and run the included software management tools. Ximeta's breakthrough NDAS technology enables instant, fast, and secure LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  connections without the need for IP configuration or a network server.

"The NetDisk Enclosure was designed from the ground-up to provide secure and portable shared storage for PCs, and Macs, surpassing the limited capabilities of traditional NAS (1) See network access server.

(2) (Network Attached Storage) A specialized file server that connects to the network. A NAS device contains a slimmed-down operating system and a file system and processes only I/O requests by supporting the popular
devices," said Marie Wesson, Product Marketing Manager of Ximeta. "NDAS technology is truly unique providing a direct data path that is as fast as a computer's local drive. Other external network storage devices rely on a server which by default requires a longer data processing path, significantly degrading overall read/write performance. When combined with its highly portable design, intuitive and powerful software management tools, and scalable capacity, users have a truly compelling 'go anywhere' storage solution."

NDAS technology also allows multiple devices to access storage through the network without any server intervention. NDAS eliminates the bottleneck effect, typical in NAS, caused by excessive CPU CPU

data processing, by connecting directly to a network without a separate CPU or memory. All users or systems on the network can directly control, use, and share folders simultaneously -- without performance degradation. NDAS offers convenience and efficiency comparable to a network file server, but it is designed to achieve high performance at a much lower cost.

The NetDisk Enclosure can connect to other NetDisk devices allowing backup or expansion through software features that permit Raid 1 or Raid 0, aggregation and mirroring. Combined with industry leading Symantec backup software, a unique hardware identification and access keycode utility which allows specific user(s) read and write authority, the NetDisk Enclosure provides complete network security.

Ximeta products are distributed by D&H, Ingram Micro, and SED (1) (Stream EDitor) A Unix text editor that processes an entire file. It is the stream-oriented version of ed, an earlier text editor. Sed executes ed commands, but instead of editing one line at a time, sed applies the commands to the whole file. , and are sold at leading retail and online merchants including Amazon, Buy.com, Comp USA, Fry's, Nextag, Outpost.com, and PriceGrabber.
